Which products conflict with The Ordinary Alpha Lipoic Acid 5%?

Our rule against combining strong antioxidants only applies to our products containing copper peptides. We would not recommend combining direct acids with peptides due to the susceptibility of peptides to hydrolysis (which breaks the bonds between peptides, reducing their efficacy and making them into individual amino acids). At low pH, the peptides undergo processes such as deamidation (the removal of an amide group) and oxidation, which compromise the activity of the peptides.

Having said that, if you have previously combined peptides with acids and have not experienced any negative side effects or discoloration, you may continue to combine the two products as so as the combination does not pose any potential harm. Our recommendations are meant to serve as a preventative measure to avoid any incompatibility between those combinations and also because of skin tolerance is subjective.

The Ordinary Alpha Lipoic Acid Reviews

Rachael Candice Alpha Lipoic Acid is a great antioxidant and gives an amazing glow. It is a little difficult to use if you have a complicated routine, as it conflicts with many other products, but is well worth putting aside a day to use as your only active serum.

Jess @sk.insta.story This is honestly the most brightening product I have ever used. I wish I could use it every day but I think my skin would object quite strenuously to this. This is one of my holy grail products which I will not be without. I would advise buying the NIOD pump (or reusing one from an empty) to make sure this doesn’t oxidize too quickly.

Tracy Alpha Lipoic Acid leaves my face with an incredible morning afterglow. I use once a week so as not to cause any potential irritation. I would hate not to have this as part of my routine!

Nia@niapattenlooks Alpha Lipoic Acid is my favourite nighttime skin treat for glory skin. Love this stuff, love the burnt sugar smell, love the warm feeling it gives. Forever on my repurchase list.

Can I use The Ordinary Caffeine Solution with Alpha Lipoic Acid? Yes, they may be used together.

Is Alpha Lipoic Acid an exfoliator? How do I incorporate it with The Ordinary Lactic Acid in a regime? Alpha Lipoic Acid 5% is a highly potent antioxidant and can restore skin to a renewed appearance, improving visible skin texture and tone when applied topically. Apply 1-2 drops of Alpha Lipoic Acid 5% over the entire face a maximum of 2-3 times per week. This treatment is highly concentrated and daily use is not recommended. Please note that we do not recommend using ALA 5% on irritated or sensitive skin; it can be diluted with most oils per application to reduce strength. If you wish to incorporate Direct Acids and strong antioxidants into your skincare regimen, we suggest using them on alternate evenings and waiting until your skin has adjusted to one before introducing another.

Can I use Alpha Lipoic Acid after Hylamide SubQ Skin and HA? We would suggest avoiding the use of direct acids, including Alpha Lipoic Acid 5%, when using products containing peptides such as SubQ Skin.

I’m currently using the ALA twice a week PM, and Granactive Retinoid 2 Emulsion on every other night.  Yes, this is absolutely perfect.

More FAQs

What’s the shelf life of alpha-lipoic acid? It’s been over six months since I’ve been using the same bottle. The shelf life of our products is three years when unopened and stored at room temperature. This is the regulatory threshold for testing. Upon opening, please refer to the period-after-opening (PAO) symbol to identify the lifetime of the product.

I recently purchased the alpha lipoid acid and was wondering where in my regime I should be using it AM or PM and do you recommend using it before/after other specific serums/products? Ideally, we would suggest using your Alpha Lipoic Acid in the PM up to three times per week maximum. We would suggest applying it after your water-based serums but before any heavier oils and creams.

What is the main difference between ALA and Pycnogenol? Can they be used together? ALA is a high-strength antioxidant that helps to renew skin appearance, and improve visible skin texture and tone- this is to be used a maximum of 2-3 times per week. Pycnogenol helps to rejuvenate the skin and enhance skin hydration and elasticity. There is no harm in mixing the two together; however, for best results we recommend layering rather than mixing upon application.
