What is The Ordinary Squalane Oil?
Squalane is a natural hydrocarbon that helps to minimize loss of hydration and improve suppleness. Unlike many plant oils, Squalane is non-greasy and non-comedogenic. Squalane is slightly heavier in spreadability than the Hemi-Squalane oil but still very lightweight. This can be applied to hair as well as the skin. This would suit anyone who would prefer something a bit heavier than the Hemi-Squalane, which almost feels as thin as water.
When & how do I use The Ordinary Squalane?
The Ordinary Squalane can be used in the morning and or evening on its own or after your water-based products but before heavy creams. Some people apply their oils last, but Deciem says to apply before heavy creams. Squalane is amazing for any dry areas on the body and fabulous for dry lips.
What´s the difference between Squalane & Hemi-Squalane?
The difference between both products is simply the consistency and skin feel upon application and molecular weight. The benefits of healthy hydration remain the same. Hemi-Squalane is essentially half the molecular weight of Squalane. The Ordinary Hemi-Squalane is very watery compared to Squalane Oil and is almost like a dry oil.
Are there any products I shouldn´t use with The Ordinary Squalane Oil?
You can slot this into any regimen as it has no conflicts at all.
What is the PAO (period after opening of The Ordinary Squalane)
Once you open your The Ordinary Squalane Oil, you should use it within 6 months. You can find lots more The Ordinary PAO here.

Independent Reviews of The Ordinary Squalane Oil
The Ordinary Squalane Oil is amazing. I apply it to my skincare before my foundation. It acts as a primer/moisturizer, and I also use it after treatments/serums at night and as a spot treatment for dry patches seasonally.
Squalane Oil helps soothe and hydrate my face when it is irritated and dry.
I used Squalane Oil on my hair last night. I applied quite a few drops on to the middle and ends of my hair and left it overnight, I washed and dried my hair this morning and saw incredible results hair really did look sleeker and smoother.
Squalane Oil is my go-to oil. I use it daily, and it keeps my dry skin hydrated and supple. I’ve never used it on my fine hair, but now I will give it a try!
Love, love, Love The Ordinary Squalane Oil!! I’m oily and acne-prone, but this helps balance out my skin. 2 drops is all I need!
I love it!! I had hormonal chin acne so bad and this helped clear me up! Can you tell me whether this goes before or after natural moisturizing factors HA?
Acne-prone skin. This works especially well in the dry winter air. But I use it year-round when I need more moisture.
I don’t love it as much as the Rosehip Seed Oil, but the last time I got the Rosehip Seed it turned pretty quickly…..I think the Squalane is more stable

FAQS about The Ordinary Squalane Oil
Some of these questions have been asked on Social Media and answered by The Ordinary.
I have relatively dry skin. Can I use both hyaluronic acid and the 100% plant-derived squalane in the same routine? Yes, this combination sounds great!
Can I use Squalane Oil every day? Yes, you can
What does The Ordinary Squalane Oil do? The 100% Plant-Derived Squalane is a product that helps keep your skin hydrated and maintains its natural moisture barrier. Squalane is a substance that naturally exists in the skin and does a great job of hydrating it. The formula we use in this product is derived entirely from plants, specifically from sugar cane. This means it’s a non-comedogenic solution, which won’t clog your pores, and it helps improve hydration on the surface of your skin. Additionally, you can also use this 100% Plant-Derived Squalane formula on your hair. It serves multiple purposes: it provides protection from heat damage, adds shine to your hair, and reduces breakage.
I have The Ordinary Niacinamide, Plant-derived Squalane, and Ascorbyl Glucoside. How and when should I apply these? You may use your current products both AM and PM. We would recommend applying Ascorbyl Glucoside first, followed by Niacinamide, Squalane, and then your moisturizing cream.
Can I use Squalane alongside the Rose Hip seed oil? It may not be necessary, but you may if you so desire.
Can Squalane Oil be used with Niacinamide? Yes, it can.
Is it ok to use Squalane after acids? Yes, you may
FAQS about The Ordinary Squalane Oil
Would you recommend this product even for very oily acne-prone skin? Squalane and Hemi-Squalane are suitable for oily skin types. We have not tested this product on acne-prone skin. Please keep in mind that this product is not formulated to treat acne.
I have purchased this product, but I’m still a little unsure how to apply it correctly? Should my face be wet? We suggest applying either solution to dry skin. 2-3 drops should be plenty for the entire face. It is also best applied after serums and before creams.
Is Squalane more hydrating than Hemi-Squalane? They are exceptional hydrators!
Can Squalane be used in place of a moisturizer at night and can I use it with retinol (before or after)? Yes, it may — it can be applied after your Retinol.
