What is The Ordinary Squalane Oil?
Squalane is a natural hydrocarbon that helps to minimize loss of hydration and improve suppleness. Unlike many plant oils, Squalane is non-greasy and non-comedogenic. Squalane is slightly heavier in spreadability than the Hemi-Squalane oil, but still very lightweight. This can be applied on the skin as well as hair. This would suit anyone who would prefer something a bit heavier than the Hemi-Squalane, which almost feels as thin as water.
When & how do I use The Ordinary Squalane?
The Ordinary Squalane can be used in the morning and or evening on its own or after your water-based products but before heavy creams. Some people apply their oils last, but Deciem say to apply before heavy creams. Squalane is amazing for any dry areas on the body and fabulous for dry lips.
What´s the difference between Squalane & Hemi-Squalane?
The difference between both products is simply the consistency and skin-feel upon application and molecular weight. The benefits of healthy hydration remain the same. Hemi-Squalane is essentially half the molecular weight of Squalane.
Are there any products I shouldn´t use with The Ordinary Squalane Oil?
You can slot this into any regimen as it has no conflicts at all.

This oil is amazing. I apply it over my skincare before my foundation. If acts as a primer/moisturizer and I also use it after treatments/serums at night and as a spot treatment for dry patches seasonally.
It helps soothe and hydrate my face when it is irritated and dry.
I used this on my hair last night, I applied quite a few drops on to the middle and ends of hair and left it overnight, washed and dried my hair this morning and saw incredible results hair really did look sleeker and smoother.
Squalane is my go to oil. I use it daily and it keeps my dry skin hydrated and supple. I’ve never used it on my fine hair but now I will give it a try!
Love, love, Love it!! I’m oily and acne prone but this helps balance out my skin. 2 drops is all I need!
I love it!! I had hormonal chin acne so bad and this helped clear me up! Can you tell does this go before or after natural moisturizing factors HA?
Acne prone skin. This works especially well in dry winter air. But I use it year round when I need more moisture.
I don’t love it as much as the Rosehip Seed Oil BUT the last time I got the Rosehip Seed it turned pretty quickly…..I think the Squalane is more stable
These questions have been asked on Social Media and answered by Deciem.
I have relatively dry skin. Can I use both hyaluronic acid and the 100% plant derived squalane in the same routine? Yes, this combination sounds great!
I have The Ordinary Niacinamide, Plant-derived Squalane and Ascorbyl Glucoside. How and when should I apply these? You may use your current products both AM and PM. We would recommend applying Ascorbyl Glucoside first followed by Niacinamide, Squalane and then your moisturizing cream.
Can I use Squalane along side the Rose Hip seed oil? It may not be necessary but you may if you so desire
Would you recommend this product even for very oily acne prone skin? Squalane and Hemi-Squalane are suitable for oily skin types. We have not tested this product on acne prone skin. Please keep in mind that this product is not formulated to treat acne.
I have purchased this product but I’m still a little unsure how to apply it correctly? Should my face be wet? We suggest applying either solution to a dry skin. 2-3 drops should be plenty for the entire face. It is also best applied after serums and before creams.
Is Squalane more hydrating than Hemi-Squalane? They are exceptional hydrators!
Can this be used in place of a moisturiser at night and can I use with retinol (before or after)? Yes it may — it can be applied after your Retinol.
As you can see 76% of the Deciem Addicts love The Ordinary Squalane Oil (it´s my favourite oil too!). 76% say it has improved their skin and 78% will repurchase it.
