What Is Natural Moisturizing Factors + PhytoCeramides?

The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + PhytoCeramides is the richest and most nourishing moisturiser in The Ordinary’s skincare range. Designed for dry, very dry and dehydrated skin, it helps strengthen the skin barrier while delivering long-lasting hydration.

Originally, Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA was the brand’s only moisturiser. In 2023, The Ordinary expanded its moisturiser collection with Natural Moisturizing Factors + PhytoCeramides and Natural Moisturizing Factors + Beta Glucan, giving customers more choice depending on their skin type.If your skin feels tight, flaky or dehydrated, Natural Moisturizing Factors + PhytoCeramides is the moisturiser I would recommend. Its rich, creamy texture leaves skin feeling soft, comfortable and deeply hydrated without feeling heavy.

How and When to Use The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + PhytoCeramides

The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + PhytoCeramides can be used morning and evening as the final moisturising step in your skincare routine.

After applying your serums, gently massage a small amount over your face and neck. This rich, nourishing formula spreads easily, so a little goes a long way. If your skin feels particularly dry or dehydrated, simply apply a little more where needed.

In your morning routine, always finish with your SPF.

My Review of The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + PhytoCeramides

I’ve been using The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA since January 2017 and never imagined I’d replace it. It had been my favourite everyday moisturiser for years.

Then Natural Moisturizing Factors + PhytoCeramides launched.

After using it consistently, it has become my favourite moisturiser from The Ordinary. It leaves my skin feeling deeply hydrated, comfortable and soft throughout the day, while giving it a healthy, radiant glow. It’s one of the few moisturisers that keeps my skin feeling moisturised from morning until night, especially during the colder months or whenever my skin feels dehydrated.

I’ve also received so many compliments about how healthy and glowing my skin looks since adding it to my routine.

That said, it won’t be the perfect moisturiser for everyone. Because it’s such a rich, nourishing cream, it leaves a dewy, radiant finish rather than a matte one. I personally love this look, but if you have oily skin or prefer lightweight gel moisturisers, I’d recommend The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + Beta Glucan instead.

If your skin is dry, very dry, dehydrated or you have a compromised skin barrier, I think Natural Moisturizing Factors + PhytoCeramides is one of the best moisturisers The Ordinary has ever created, and it’s a product I continue to repurchase.

FAQs About The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + PhytoCeramides

Is The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + PhytoCeramides suitable for oily skin?

Natural Moisturizing Factors + PhytoCeramides is best suited to dry, very dry and dehydrated skin. If you have oily or combination skin, I’d recommend The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + Beta Glucan, which has a much lighter gel-cream texture. If you have combination skin, you may still enjoy using PhytoCeramides as a richer night cream.

What is the PAO (Period After Opening) of Natural Moisturizing Factors + PhytoCeramides?

The Period After Opening (PAO) is 12 months, meaning The Ordinary recommends using the product within one year of opening for the best performance.

Why is Natural Moisturizing Factors + PhytoCeramides more expensive than Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA?

According to The Ordinary, the higher price reflects the advanced formula. It contains almost four times more emollients and twice as many humectants as Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA, making it their richest and most nourishing moisturiser.

Can I use Natural Moisturizing Factors + PhytoCeramides with Squalane?

Yes. The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + PhytoCeramides can be used with 100% Plant-Derived Squalane. Apply your Squalane before your moisturiser, or mix a drop into the cream for an extra boost of nourishment.

Can I use Natural Moisturizing Factors + PhytoCeramides with Niacinamide?

Yes. These products work beautifully together. Apply The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% first, followed by Natural Moisturizing Factors + PhytoCeramides to lock in hydration.

Is Natural Moisturizing Factors + PhytoCeramides suitable for acne-prone skin?

Yes, it is generally suitable for acne-prone skin. However, because it is a rich moisturiser, some people with oily or acne-prone skin may prefer the lighter Natural Moisturizing Factors + Beta Glucan instead. As with any new skincare product, it’s always best to patch test first.

Can I use The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + PhytoCeramides every day?

Yes. It is designed for daily use and can be applied morning and evening as the final moisturising step in your skincare routine.

What is the best moisturiser from The Ordinary?

The best moisturiser depends on your skin type.

  • Dry, very dry or dehydrated skin: Natural Moisturizing Factors + PhytoCeramides
  • Normal skin: Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA
  • Oily or combination skin: Natural Moisturizing Factors + Beta Glucan

Each moisturiser is designed for different skin needs.

What other moisturisers does The Ordinary sell?

The Ordinary currently has three facial moisturisers and one scalp moisturiser:

Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA for Scalp – a leave-on scalp serum designed to hydrate and soothe a dry scalp.

Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA – a lightweight everyday moisturiser suitable for most skin types.

Natural Moisturizing Factors + Beta Glucan – a lightweight gel-cream ideal for oily and combination skin.

Natural Moisturizing Factors + PhytoCeramides – the richest moisturiser in the range, perfect for dry and dehydrated skin.

Is Natural Moisturizing Factors + PhytoCeramides worth buying?

If you have dry, very dry or dehydrated skin, absolutely. It’s my favourite moisturiser from The Ordinary because it leaves my skin feeling hydrated all day while helping support a healthy skin barrier. If your skin is oily, however, I’d recommend Natural Moisturizing Factors + Beta Glucan instead.
