What is The Ordinary Niacinamide and what does it do?
- regulates sebum
- minimizes pores
Deciem´s simple explanation: Niacinamide, also known as Vitamin B3, is a high-strength vitamin and mineral formula that helps to support barrier function while reducing the appearance of visible shine and signs of congestion.
This ingredient has also been shown to have a brightening effect on the skin, making it a truly multifunctional ingredient that can be easily incorporated into any routine. We have included Niacinamide at a high 10% concentration within this formula. Additionally, this formula includes a 1% concentration of Zinc PCA, which works to support the skin’s function as a protective barrier.

Niacinamide Conflicts
The Ordinary recommends avoiding using Niacinamide in the same routine as their vitamin c products.
- Up until November 2020, Niacinamide serum only conflicted with direct vitamin c products (Ethylated Ascorbic Acid & L-Ascorbic Acid).
- November 2020, Deciem suggested avoiding all vitamin c products including the derivatives with Niacinamide.
This is what Deciem said in November 2020 regarding Niacinamide and derivatives.
We do not recommend combining Vitamin C (L-Ascorbic Acid, Ethylated L-Ascorbic Acid, or Vitamin C Derivatives) with Niacinamide with Direct or Ethylated Vitamin C and Vitamin C Derivatives due to the formation of a salt complex that has the potential to reduce the integrity of both compounds.
If you wish to combine both products into a regimen, we recommend using them on alternate days and/or nights.
What is the PAO of Niacinamide?
The period after opening Niacinamide is 12 months.
The Ordinary Niacinamide is foamy – is it normal?
This is one of the most common questions about Niacinamide. If you apply too much, it can be soapy. Apply smaller amounts at a time and make sure your skin is cleansed well with no residue left on your skin.
