What is The Ordinary Niacinamide and what does it do?
Deciem´s simple explanation: Niacinamide, also known as Vitamin B3, is a high-strength vitamin and mineral formula that helps to support barrier function, while reducing the appearance of visible shine and signs of congestion.
This ingredient has also been shown to have a brightening effect on the skin, making it a truly multifunctional ingredient that can be easily incorporated into any routine. We have included Niacinamide at a high 10% concentration within this formula. Additionally, this formula includes a 1% concentration of Zinc PCA, which works to support the skin’s function as a protective barrier.
- Brightens skin
- Regulates Sebum
- Minimizes Pores
- Signs of congestion
- Support the skin’s function as a protective barrier
When & how do I use Niacinamide?
You can use Niacinamide in the morning and evening. Niacinamide is a water-based product. Niacinamide would be applied as one of your first layers, before anhydrous, oils and cream solutions. You can read all about layering The Ordinary here.
Which product can and cannot be used with Niacinamide?
Deciem do not recommend applying Niacinamide in the same routine as pure Vitamin C as Niacinamide has the capacity to affect the integrity of Vitamin C, potentially reducing its efficacy.

The Ordinary Niacinamide Reviews
Jen @jamjarskingeek Niacinamide – my absolute favourite product from The Ordinary. It’s a multi purpose gem that supports my skin barrier, helps with pigmentation and keeps my oily skin in check. I wouldn’t be without it and love the new large size
I reach for The Ordinary Niacinamide whenever my skin is playing up. It goes so well with many other Deciem products.
My skin has gone from ‘dry’ to ‘normal’ even with pescription strength retin A . It’s helped to keep my skin moisturized! I’m obsessed with this product and use night and day.
These faqs have been asked and answered by Deciem on social media.
Can I use Niacinamide + Alpha Arbutin + Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution + AHA and BHA peeling solution in the same routine? Which ones are essential for blemishes and dark spots? Niacinamide and Alpha Arbutin are great products to target your concerns. You may use your products in the same routine. However, we do not suggest the use of both AHA + BHA Peeling Solution and Glycolic Acid in the same routine.
Which products would you recommend for oily and acne prone skin? We suggest the use of The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%. As this is a high-strength vitamin and mineral formula that visibly targets the look of blemishes and signs of congestion. We recommend avoiding unprotected solar exposure, gradually incorporating one new product into your regimen at a time and applying test patches first to see what works best for your skin. Just as a note – none of our products can be considered medical treatments for acne, so we suggest consulting with your physician to see what may work best for your skin.
I have Hyaluronic Acid, Niacinamide and Buffet+Copper. What order should I apply these? Buffet + Copper Peptides > Hyaluronic Acid > Niacinamide.
Can we use Niacinamide with Alpha Arbutin. Yes you may! We suggest using Alpha Arbutin first.
Should I use Niacinamide if I have sensitive skin? This solution is suitable for all skin types. Apply patch tests prior to a full face application.
Would I apply The Ordinary Niacinamide before or after The Ordinary Buffet. You may wish to apply The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% after The Ordinary “Buffet”.
Can I use The Ordianry Niacinamide after the Glycolic Acid 7% toning solution and before Azelaic Acid Suspension 10%? I’ve been ending my regimen with the Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA. Yes, you may!
Is there anything we should avoid layering this with? The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% is compatible with most products! Please note that Niacinamide cannot be used alongside L-Ascorbic Acid and Ethylated Ascorbic Acid as Niacinamide can affect the integrity of these forms of Vitamin C.
Would I use the Niacinamide serum before 100% organic cold-pressed rose hip seed oil? You can apply The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% first then The Ordinary 100% Organic Cold Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil with no conflicts!
Is this the best vitamin B product you have to complement a skin care routine with vitamin A and C use? I’m using Retin-A and a vitamin C serum. Hi! Unfortunately, it is difficult for us to comment on the pairing of our products with those of other brands and/or prescription medications. We recommend consulting with your doctor/dermatologist, gradually incorporating one new product into your regimen at a time, and applying test patches first to see what works best for your skin. Niacinamide should not be used with pure forms of Vitamin C.
Can Niacinamide be combined with Vitamin C in the morning and glycolic acid or retinoids in the evening? Niacinamide is safe to use alongside Glycolic Acid and/or Retinoids but it should only be used with Vitamin C derivatives.
Can I use Mandelic Acid with Niacinamide? Niacinamide may be used with Mandelic Acid
