Nicola Kilner Steps Down as CEO of Deciem – 2024
But stays on as Co-Founder!
The news is out! Nicola Kilner CEO & Co-founder of Deciem is stepping down as CEO at the end of the year, but will remain as Co-Founder which is great news! Nicola Kilner was there at the start of Deciem and I believe the closest to Brandon Truaxe, knowing and understanding his vision for Deciem and the beauty industry. Hopefully, this vision will continue
I’ve been involved with Deciem since 2017, and it’s had a huge impact on my life. I never imagined that a love for a skincare brand would lead to so many life-changing opportunities. So, hearing the news this week was emotional—it’s been a rollercoaster, and Nicola’s presence was always a comfort.
Nicola Kilner Stepping Down as CEO of Deciem
I first met Nicola in 2017. She was a huge fan of The Ordinary & Deciem Chat Room Facebook Group I started. It was the very first group totally devoted to Deciem. She and Brandon Truaxe embraced the group, learning from both positive and negative feedback, which led to product innovations like Marine Hyaluronics. Deciem has always been unique in how it engages with customers, setting it apart from other skincare brands.
When I received Nicola’s email earlier this week about stepping down as CEO, it was emotional. With Brandon Truaxe no longer with us and now Nicola stepping down, it truly feels like the end of an era. The last 7-8 years have been a rollercoaster of highs and extreme lows, and now it seems it’s time for Nicola to step back and spend time with her family.
Estée Lauder
This news follows Estée Lauder’s acquisition of Deciem earlier this year, and quite a lot of movement around the ELC Company. Some fear negative changes, but since ELC´s involvement, Deciem has seen improvements like better stock availability and expanded product access worldwide. We´ve also seen many more offers and discounts than ever before. I will remain positive and also hope they continue to embrace Deciem Chat Room the way Deciem has done up to now.
After visiting The Ordinary headquarters in Toronto this year, I’m confident the brand will stay true to its core values. As Nicola Kilner steps down, Jesper Rasmussen has been promoted to Global Brand President. He is someone I´m sure will lead Deciem forward—I was very fortunate to meet him personally and he certainly has a “Deciem” vibe about him. I feel the company is in good hands, especially now knowing that Nicola Kilner will still be around as Co. Founder.
