How Long Does The Ordinary Last? Bottles, Shelf Life & PAO Guide

Wondering how long does a bottle of The Ordinary last?

Most 30ml The Ordinary serums contain approximately 300 drops.

If you use:

UsageApproximate bottle life
2 drops once a dayAround 5 months
2 drops twice a dayAround 2–3 months
3 drops twice a dayAround 6–8 weeks

One of the biggest mistakes I have seen people make over the years, (including myself) is buying too many products. Save time and money buy buying a complete skincare routine and get the best results from being consistent.

The Ordinary – How long will a bottle last me?

How long does a bottle of The Ordinary last?

Wondering how long a bottle of The Ordinary will last? Most 30ml The Ordinary serums contain around 300 drops, although this varies slightly depending on the product’s consistency. In my (rather boring!) experiment, I counted approximately 300 drops in a standard 30ml bottle.

Exactly how long a bottle of The Ordinary lasts depends on three things:

  • How many drops you use each time.
  • Whether you apply it once or twice a day.
  • The thickness of the formula.

For example, a bottle of The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% might last around three months if used daily, while 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil could easily last six months because you only need a few drops. 100% Plant-Derived Squalane often lasts around four months, whereas Hemi-Squalane may be used up more quickly because its lightweight texture means many people apply a little more.

As a general guide, most 30ml The Ordinary products last between 2 and 6 months, making them excellent value for money when used as part of a simple skincare routine.

This is how long The Ordinary bottles have lasted our members

I asked this question on Instagram, and this is what the followers said;

  • I’m using The Ordinary once a day, and I think it’s enough for 2 months.
  • A bottle lasts me 4/5 months, using it once a day.
  • I use The Ordinary every day, twice a day, and it lasts me 3 months
  • A bottle of The Ordinary lasts me 4 months.
  • I use it every day, and it lasts me 3 months
  • A 30ml bottle of The Ordinary lasts me 6 weeks
  • I use The Ordinary daily or every other day, and one bottle lasts me 6-8 weeks.
  • I use The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid, and it has lasted me 9 months using it every day.
  • The Ordinary bottle lasts me 3 months, maybe 3 and a half, using it daily.
  • A bottle of The Ordinary lasts me 3 to 4 months using it daily
  • Using The Ordinary once a day lasts me 3 months
  • The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid and The Ordinary Caffeine Solution last me 2 months, maybe a little more.
  • A bottle of The Ordinary lasts me 1 month, but I use it twice a day every day.
  • The Ordinary lasts me 6 months, using it twice a day.
  • A bottle lasts me 4 or 5 months.
  • I use most of my 30ml bottles from The Ordinary 1 or 2 times a day, and they last me around 4-5 months.
  • A bottle will last me 6 months using it every other day.
  • 3 drops of The Ordinary in the morning and evening and a bottle lasts me 4 months.
  • I use The Ordinary every day, twice a day, and a bottle lasts me 2 months.

How many drops should I use?

2/3 drops is all you need, but obviously this depends on you.

  • 2–3 drops
  • More isn’t better
  • Too much causes pilling

My Advice

One of the biggest mistakes new users make is buying ten products at once. Many The Ordinary products last between three and six months, so purchasing a simple routine of four or five products usually gives much better value and helps you use everything before it reaches its Period After Opening (PAO).

How to apply The Ordinary

The Ordinary says to apply 2/3 drops of serum and, from the creams, a small pea-size amount. As I have mentioned above, we all use different amounts. Some of us like a thin coating, while others love slapping it all on. Some products are much thinner than others making them harder to apply, whilst others a slightly thicker.

The Ordinary PAO (Period After Opening)

When you’re new to The Ordinary, it’s tempting to fill your basket because the products are so affordable. However, buying too many products at once often means you won’t finish them before they reach their PAO (Period After Opening).

Most The Ordinary serums last several months, so a simple routine with just a few carefully chosen products is usually all you need. Not only will you save money, but you’ll also be more likely to use each product consistently and finish it within its recommended period after opening.

Not sure what PAO means or how long your products are safe to use after opening? Read our complete The Ordinary PAO (Period After Opening) Guide, where you’ll find everything you need to know about expiry dates, storage, refrigeration and how to tell when it’s time to replace a product.
